The next PGRC membership meeting will be held at the Club House, Tuesday 16 February 2010 at 7:00 PM.

JANUARY MEMBERSHIP MEETING

New / Returning Members. Dan Carson re-introduced himself to the members. He was a PGRC member in the 80’s, but military service and other factors required him to put the hobby on hold. Now that he is retired, he is returning to the Club and is anxious to get back into the hobby. Welcome back, Dan…

Joe Webster flew briefly with Meade Modelers. (He joined shortly before the club lost its field and disbanded.) Joe flies electric, gas, and glow…

Roland Jackson has been out of the hobby since 1991. Since he was recently “forced into retirement”, he is looking to get back into the hobby.

Dave Ellis was a recent PGRC member working on his solo certification but health issues kept him away from the field last year. Now he’s back at full strength and ready to resume flight instruction. Looking forward to seeing all you guys - Dan, Joe, Roland, and Dave - this year at the field.

Treasury. Steve Baker proudly announced that the Club House BG&E bill for January was $37.60 - down by almost an order of magnitude from this time last year - despite the weather being a few degrees cooler this January. This is more evidence that the culprit had been the faulty well pump (replaced by Dan Myer and several other members this summer) that evidently had been running continuously and running up the electric bill. As of the meeting, with additional deposits not totaled, the Club treasure was at approximately $10,000.

Solko Air Force. Rick Moreland recapped several PGRC members’ efforts over the holidays helping clean out Joe’s RC equipmentfrom the Solko residence. Two of Joe’s prized scale models - a de Havilland Tiger Moth and a Lockheed P-38 - will be cleaned up a bit and then put on display at the Club House. Rick brought the Tiger Moth to the meeting. Rick’s story precipitated re-telling of some of the exploits of Joe’s aviation career: getting soloed in the Tiger Moth in Canada while still in his teens, in the late 1930s, as the first step toward his WW II fighter-pilot career; and being reported lost in action by his wing man in a sortie, after flying through the debris field of a German fighter he had just shot down in his P-38. We are planning to bring Joe and Tina for a visit to the Club House when we have the models on display.

Museum Piece. Rick Moreland and Chic White reported that donation of Herb Stockton’s FAI championship-winning model racer from the 1960s has been accepted by the AMA Board. The model will be put on display at the National Model Aviation Museum in Muncie, Indiana. (http://www.modelaircraft.org/museum.aspx)

Raffle and 50/50. Eugene Lyon won a new field box in the raffle. The field box had been donated to the Club, in kit form, and assembled by Board member Tim Williams. The 50-50 prize of $74.50 went unclaimed as D. J. Reed (a.k.a. “Mr. D.J.”) was not present at the meeting.

WIRELESS BUDDY BOX. Evandro Valente indicated that he is now selling his Wireless Buddy Box system internationally, and has updated that design. The system now includes options that enable the student to initiate giving control back to the instructor, and taking control from the instructor (if the option is enabled by the instructor). Evandro also indicated that components have been ordered to provide Blue Tooth wireless connectivity between the receiver and servos - minimizing the likelihood of RF interference due to long servo wire runs in large aircraft, and isolating the receiver from the servos. He also discussed other possible applications of the Blue Tooth data link.

FUEL DEAL. Steve Baker has 17 gallons of 15% glow fuel for sale at $18 / gal, one gallon per customer. See Steve if you’re interested.

GET WELL, GARRIE

Best wishes to Garrie Taylor, who is on the mend after some surgery.

We’re hoping to see Garrie back at the field later this spring
