The next PGRC membership meeting will be held at the FIELD, Tuesday 20 July 2010 at 7:00 PM.

JUNE MEMBERSHIP MEETING The June meeting was held at the field. New / Returning Folks. There were several first-time attendees at the meeting, as well as a few returnees. Lolly Heffner, daughter of member Dennis Heffner, was present. She is progressing toward her solo certification on a NexStar electric trainer. New member Lawrence Ben has been a particularly fast learner, and is perhaps one or two sessions away from his first solo. Garry Newgent is returning to the hobby after a 30-year absence. He visited the field several times last fall and has returned this spring, re-honing his flying skills on electrics. Harvey Cox, a long-time PGRC member, hopes to get back into flying after several years of house building / renovating. Gerard Loiseau, retired from the US Marine Corps and a new Swanson Rd. neighbor, is considering getting into the hobby. We’re looking forward to seeing all you folks at the field this summer.

Treasury. Steve Baker reported a balance of $13,231 in the treasury.

Recaps. Charlie Gettier recapped the Bowie Fest and Bowie Memorial Day Parade and recognized the efforts of Byron Smith who coordinated PGRC’s participation in both events. Alan summarized a recent road trip to the Rhinebeck Aerodrome made by Alan, Charlie, and Dave Turner. The venue features a museum and weekend air shows with some of the oldest flying aircraft in the world. It is highly recommended to anyone with an interest in antique aircraft.

Raffle / 50-50. The meeting raffle prize, a vintage Fox .40 new in the box, was won by Joe Bodnar. Matt Real was not present to claim the 50-50 pot of $96.

FOR SALE. Zenoah G-80 Engine (new - under 2 hours running time) - $500; Sullivan 12-24V starter and carrying box - $130; Futaba GY401 Gyro (new - never used) - $85 Bill Baldiga (703) 931-1338 NEW WINDSOCK. Check out the new windsock installed directly across the field from the flight line. Thanks go to Roland Jackson for donation of the aluminum tower and much of the installation work.

PLEASE LOCK THE GATE It is VERY IMPORTANT that the last person leaving the field lock the gate. Whatever time of day - even mid-morning - if you leave and no one is behind you at the field, YOU MUST LOCK THE GATE. Please help protect our property and our investment in the PGRC flying facility.

TUESDAY AFTERNOON FLIGHT INSTRUCTION. Alan Goodman, Tim Williams, and Charlie Gettier have been providing instruction for folks on Tuesday afternoons after work. Any new members in need of instruction, or current members in need of a refresher, are welcome. Anyone wishing to assist as an instructor would also be welcome.

ELECTRIC INCIDENTS. There have been a rash of accidents at the field lately whereby pilots of electric powered models have inadvertently advanced the throttle while working on the model (e.g., withdrawing the battery pack, disassembling the model) on the tables under the pavilion. These incidents have resulted in cut hands and fingers, as evidenced by the blood stains on the pavilion floor. The Board has become concerned not only about injuries to our members, but also about the safety of spectators - particularly children - who frequently sit under the pavilion. With this concern in mind, we ask that all electric flyers comply with the following safety rule:

Any electric model with the battery pack installed must NOT be brought under the pavilion. Models with installed batteries must be kept in the pit area or on a Geezer Bench. Assembly and disassembly of electric aircraft under the pavilion is permitted as long as the battery pack is not installed in the model.

PICNIC TABLE ETIQUETTE. The picnic tables and pavilion are for the comfort of PGRC Club members, guests, and spectators. Please keep airplane setup and repairs on the tables to a minimum. That is what the “Geezer Benches” are for. Between flights, keep your airplane in the pit area (except of course if it starts to rain.) ABSOLUTELY NO FUELING OR RUNNING OF GAS / GLOW PLANES ON THE PICNIC TABLES.

GRASS CUTTING SCHEDULE. Rodger Binger and Charlie Gettier will normally be cutting the grass every Friday morning. The field will be closed for flying from early morning until approximately 2:00 in the afternoon. Please do not set up your stuff and become an obstacle during mowing operations. Note that if rain is forecast for Friday, we will attempt to cut the grass on Thursday morning. Please cooperate with our field maintenance staff in performing this extremely valuable volunteer function.

From 2009. Steve Baker and Rick Moreland prepare for a quarter midget pylon demonstration at the 2009 Open House. Dave Turner (cigar) and an unknown member (striped shirt) assist
